Specialist Travel Technician - WT4 Specialist
Imagine a future where you help safeguard the safety, reliability and performance of offshore wind turbines across Ørsted’s portfolio.
Join us in this role where you’ll carry out specialised inspections, up-tower repairs, troubleshooting and other technical activities across different wind turbine sites and platforms. You’ll combine strong technical capability with a safety-first mindset, sound judgement and the resilience to work effectively while travelling internationally.
Welcome to Special Tasks & Inspections
You’ll be part of the ST&I Travel Technician team, where you and your colleagues will deliver specialist inspections, repairs, technical campaigns and turbine support across Ørsted’s wind turbine sites. As a team, we work in smaller groups across different regions and placing strong emphasis on safety, quality, teamwork and professional development. The role provides exposure to different turbine technologies and complex technical challenges, with opportunities to contribute field experience to improved tools, methods and ways of working.
You’ll play an important role in:
- Conducting turbine condition assessments, end-of-warranty, component and specialist inspections, producing accurate technical reports.
- Perform advanced diagnostic inspections, including endoscopic and stethoscope assessments.
- Carrying out up-tower repairs and support specialised mechanical and electrical activities, troubleshooting complex faults and identifying practical solutions.
- Working within Ørsted's ISO 17020 accredited inspection framework, ensuring compliance, quality and impartiality standards are maintained.
- Leading technical activities as a technical lead, team lead or client representative, collaborating closely with site teams, project teams, OEMs, contractors and technical specialists.
- Contributing to the development and improvement of tools, RAMS, AWPs, work instructions, testing activities and innovative ways of working.
- Championing a strong safety culture, sharing technical expertise, maintaining required competencies and authorisations, and challenging or stopping work where safe execution cannot be assured.
To succeed in the role, you:
- Hold a relevant technical qualification or equivalent hands-on experience, with strong knowledge of wind turbine technology, ideally gained on SGRE or Vestas platforms.
- Apply strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills to unfamiliar and complex technical challenges, developing safe, practical and professional solutions.
- Work independently, prioritising activities and making sound technical decisions when support is not immediately available on site.
- Adapt quickly to different sites, teams and cultures, building effective relationships and representing Ørsted professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate clearly in English, producing accurate, structured technical reports and inspection documentation.
- Demonstrate a collaborative, hands-on approach while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and professional conduct.
- Be resilient and adaptable, with the ability to undertake extensive international travel and secure the work permits, visas and travel authorisations required for offshore work in the UK, EU, US and Taiwan.
It's an advantage if you also have:
- Experience with endoscopic inspections, turbine condition assessments and component inspections.
- Experience supporting up-tower repairs, major component replacements, technical campaigns and testing activities.
- Relevant OEM authorisations, experience working under Wind Turbine Safety Rules, or within accredited inspection and quality frameworks.
- Strong IT skills, including digital inspection and reporting tools, and additional language capabilities such as German.
The position involves extensive international travel as part of a 14/14 rotation with 12-hour shifts. Assignments may involve unfamiliar sites, teams and working environments. There will also be situations where you are expected to work independently while abroad, while remaining connected to the wider ST&I team. Due to the international nature of the role, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary work permits, visas and travel documentation required for assignments across the UK, EU, US and Taiwan.
Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
